 The Einstein Legacy Society was created in 1996 by a Planned Giving Committee chaired by Trustee Emeritus Ralph Hansmann and co-chaired by Charles L. and Rosanna Jaffin to recognize those friends of the Institute who have made a planned gift or have included a commitment to the Institute for Advanced Study in their estate plans.

The Society honors the memory of Albert Einstein, a founding Faculty member and one of the most illustrious names associated with the Institute.

Planned gifts such as bequests, life income gifts, charitable lead trusts, gifts from retirement plans or insurance policies, or gifts of a remainder interest in a residence play a vital role in insuring that the Institute remains one of the world's leading centers for theoretical research and intellectual inquiry, and that it will continue to encourage and support the original, often speculative thinking that advances the frontiers of knowledge.
